It has been a long but productive couple of weeks, oh wait a month as of next Tuesday. At work(University Medical Billing) we are having mandatory overtime and it is good in some respects and bad at the same time. I am sure everyone can relate to this, especially Amy and Davey!
However, I continue to struggle with trying to maintain the roll of wife and career woman. It doesn't help that I have roughly a 3 hour commute each day but I am trying to keep on top of everything. I finally had to admit this weekend that I wasn't going to be able to keep up with everything that was being demanded of me. Yes, I gave away the fruit rather than preserving it for this winter because I couldn't watch it go bad because I wasn't getting to it fast enough. My house is cleaned only every other week, shocker I know. If I don't do my hair before leaving for work, I have resorted to doing it on the bus so I can sleep an extra 15-20 minutes in the mornings.
I keep reminding myself it is ok. Then that little red devil Satan sits on my shoulder and starts to nag at me that I am slacking....argh. "Shut up," my subconscious screams back. I may not get dinner made and on the table until 7:30 or 8:00 p.m. but gosh darn it I actually cooked a meal and made sure it was frugal and healthy. I make lunches everyday for Bruce and I to take to work so that we have something edible and available to eat so take that mister devil man. I have given up on making breakfast however, yes one more of the items to let go of. I cherish my sleep more than that breakfast and we are still alive, amazing.
Lastly, my phone decided to take a crap on me today. I have had the same phone for 3+ years and it has worked perfectly. It is rare that anyone keeps a phone for that long now-a-days. But you would be shocked at how insecure it made me feel to know that I couldn't call or text when I want to as I was coming home. So stupid, but yet so important. I love being connected to technology in some regards but then again I could careless about some aspects. I guess we each have our happy medium that we find in order to balance these things.
Bruce started working back at Weber Basin again this week. He says it feels like he didn't really leave because he got his old cell phone(lets hope I don't accidentally wash it again), dump truck, fuel card, etc. back. He is so happy to have the consistency back and I am so happy to actually see him for more than 30 minutes everyday, not to mention I get more sleep now :). It is very sweet that he wants to spend time with me and worries when we don't get enough time together because of the demands of life. In the little ways he helps me to remember to stay centered and down to earth.
Mom and I will have to continue our girls nights in the future for sure. When Bruce would be working nights, I would go to Mom's house on some Wednesday evenings and watch Downton Abbey with her. It was always a treat and sometimes we would splurge for some gluten-free pizza too. Once again, keep the balancing act going.
